Ms. Yu is a Co-founder and General Partner of Sunwater Capital. Ms. Yu is the founder of Greencourt Development, a Shanghai-based private real estate development and investment company and the controlling shareholder of Shanghai Greencourt Investment Group, a Shanghai-listed asset management company. During her real estate career, Ms. Yu has developed more than 36 million square feet of residential, commercial, and retail property in China and the United States.
Ms. Yu’s other entrepreneurial activities include the founding of ViiNet, a fintech company helping Chinese allocate assets globally, and Yuan Media, a digital media company. Ms. Yu is the chairman of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation committee at the International Leadership Foundation and a co-founder of the Sunwater Institute.
Matthew Chervenak

Matthew Chervenak is an entrepreneur and investor in healthcare, data, real estate, and public policy.
Mr. Chervenak is a founder and General Partner of Sunwater Capital. He is the founder and President of the Sunwater Institute, a think tank focused on exploring fundamental ideas for a more prosperous society.
Mr. Chervenak founded and was the CEO of GBI, a data and analytics company serving the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Prior to his entrepreneurial and investment activities, Mr. Chervenak worked as a strategy consultant and conducted neuroscience research.
Aric Lavinthal
Managing Director & General Counsel
Mr. Lavinthal is Managing Director and General Counsel of Sunwater Capital. Mr. Lavinthal handles a variety of issues for Sunwater including legal matters, deal management, operations, and estate planning. Prior to joining Sunwater, Mr. Lavinthal managed the legal departments of GBI, a Shanghai-based intelligence company focused on the pharmaceutical and medical device industries, and UrbanDaddy, a New York-based media and commerce company. Before joining UrbanDaddy, Mr. Lavinthal engaged in complex cases in corporate governance, internal investigations, reinsurance, intellectual property, and general commercial disputes at Willkie Farr & Gallagher.
Stephanie Gualino
Chief Financial Officer
Ms. Gualino is Chief Financial Officer at Sunwater Capital. Ms. Gualino has extensive experience structuring transactions and managing the complexity of international taxation. Prior to joining Sunwater, Ms. Gualino led international tax at American Capital, structured investments and performed due diligence at PwC and at KPMG and developed cross-border tax strategies at Diageo. Ms. Gualino holds a B.S. in accounting from New York University, where she also earned an MBA in finance and tax. She holds active CPA licenses in New Jersey and Virginia.
Alan Xin
Director, Healthcare and Information
Mr. Xin is Director, Healthcare and Information at Sunwater Capital. His responsibilities include investment sourcing, due diligence, execution, and oversight, with particular emphasis on healthcare and information technology companies. Prior to joining Sunwater, Mr. Xin was executive director of Overseas Investments at Fosun Healthcare Group and held corporate development roles at Mitsui & Co. and Medco Health Solutions. Mr. Xin holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and mathematics from Berea College, a master’s degree in business administration from New York University, and a master’s degree in biomedical science from the Mayo Clinic.
Kurt Weierstall
Development and Asset Manager
Mr. Weierstall joined Sunwater Capital in 2020. As the Development and Asset Manager, Kurt is responsible for managing the U.S. based asset portfolio, overseeing acquisitions, entitlements, development, tenant construction projects, property management, capital improvements, marketing and leasing. With over 22 years of Development, Architecture and Construction experience Mr.Weierstall has successfully developed approximately 3500 residential units, 150,000sf of retail and 80,000 sf of office for companies such as Embrasure Development, Wood Partners, Comstock Homes and The Housing Studio. Mr Weierstall graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelors of Architecture degree.
Graham Gilkerson
Director, Healthcare and Information
Mr. Gilkerson is Director, Healthcare and Information at Sunwater Capital. His responsibilities include investment sourcing, due diligence, execution, and oversight, with particular emphasis on healthcare and information companies. Prior to joining Sunwater, Mr. Gilkerson founded Fellow Health, a provider network management business that merged with FetchMD. Prior to Fellow Health, Mr. Gilkerson led corporate development at The Advisory Board Company and was part of the natural resources group at Banc of America Securities. Mr. Gilkerson holds a master’s degree in finance and Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas A&M University.
Rachel Johns
Legal Analyst
Ms. Johns is the Legal Analyst at Sunwater Capital. Working with the Managing Director and General Counsel, her responsibilities include contract management, client negotiations, compliance and governance, internal operation support, legal process support as well as corporate transaction support. Prior to joining Sunwater, Rachel Johns worked as a paralegal at a Civil Litigation firm. Ms. Johns holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a master’s degree in Business Administration.
Melissa Washington
HR & Operations Manager
Ms. Washington is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the office including human resources, scheduling, information technology, event planning, and managing resources and providing support. Prior to joining Sunwater, Ms. Washington was the Lead Executive Assistant at a health services advisory firm in Washington, DC. Ms. Washington holds a bachelor’s degree in criminology and comparative politics from West Virginia University and studied at the London School of Economics. Ms. Washington is a United States Army veteran and served overseas.
Scott Tompkins
Controller
Mr. Tompkins is the Controller at Sunwater Capital. His responsibilities include the oversight and execution of accounting operations, financial reporting, and enterprise risk management. In his career, Mr. Tompkins led accounting and enterprise risk consulting engagements with Deloitte & Touche, and provided audit and tax services with a regional accounting firm. He most recently held the role of Director of Accounting at Clark Construction Group. Mr. Tompkins earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Connecticut and an MBA from George Mason University. He holds a CPA license in Virginia and Washington, DC.
Ngoc Dang
Staff Accountant
Ms. Dang is a Staff Accountant with Sunwater Capital. Working with Finance and Accounting department leadership, her responsibilities include assisting with financial accounting, treasury operations, and financial reporting. Before joining Sunwater, Ms. Dang worked as Staff Accountant at a CPA firm where she provided tax, accounting and payroll services for small businesses and individuals. Ms. Dang holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and a Master’s degree in Finance and Accounting Management.
